Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Waterloo, IA is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support center operations and ensure donor safety.

You will determine donor eligibility, manage adverse events, review lab results, and communicate findings under supervision of the Center Manager and Center Physician. Emphasis on regulatory compliance and patient service throughout all activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
• Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic.
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
• Satisfactorily complete FDA approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility including informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and SPE review.
• Evaluate donor reactions and manage medical emergencies per SOPs and Center Physician standing orders.
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or medical/technical guidance.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and consult EHS for further evaluation as needed.
