Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Ames, IA is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations. You will determine donor eligibility, review test results, manage donor safety, and work under the Center Manager and Center Physician guidance.

Requirements include EMT-Paramedic licensure, CPR/AED certification, and at least two years in a clinical setting. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered along with comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must hold EMT-Paramedic licensure/certification in the state of responsibility.
• CPR and AED certification required.
• At least 2 years of clinical or hospital experience.
• Basic IV therapy training/credentials required.
• Completion of BioLife Medical Support Specialist FDA-approved training.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical exam, and reviewing SPE.
• Evaluate donor reactions per SOPs and manage medical emergencies; coordinate with Center Physician for standing orders and donor transport.
• Refer to Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or medical/technical guidance, including donor safety and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and determine if occupational health/ER evaluation is required; follow EHS guidance.
• Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and assist investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent including graduate equivalent of a recognized nursing program

EMT-Paramedic license/certification

CPR and AED certification

Basic IV therapy training/certification
