UNC REX Emergency Department includes 54 beds with a non-designated holding area that consists of 8 beds with private rooms, catering to behavioral health patient needs in the ED. We have 2 major resuscitation rooms, triage rooms for initial assessment, in-department radiology suite, and a decontamination room. Our ED team cares for patients in all life-threatening situations, less-critical injuries requiring minor treatment, and acute and behavioral health diagnoses. Patients with heart conditions receive care in the REX ED Chest Pain Center, the Triangle's first accredited chest pain center. Stroke care is provided by our Joint Commission certified Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center. The REX ED Leadership team emphasizes teamwork and positive co-worker recognition in our fast-paced environment.
Summary:
Works as a member of the Emergency Department clinical team. The paramedic collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide age-specific care in compliance with hospital or urgent care standards. The paramedic provides care under supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician, with clinical oversight from a physician. Skills approved by NC-OEMS are utilized.

Education Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Completion of OEMS-approved training & competency program for Paramedic and current North Carolina Paramedic Certification. Certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS.
Professional Experience Requirements: Six months of pre-hospital Paramedic experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to understand, communicate, and react effectively to the needs of neonatal to geriatric patients. Must demonstrate clinical competence as per Skills Checklist.
