Responsibilities

• Provide short-term inpatient care and transport during intra-hospital transfers for diagnostics and procedures.
• Monitor, observe, and document patient conditions, including vital signs, and report changes to healthcare professionals.
• Measure, report, and record vital signs manually and via monitors, as prescribed.
• Immediately inform the responsible nurse of abnormal findings.
• Identify arrhythmias such as asystole, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, tachy-arrhythmias, brady-arrhythmias, artifacts, and multiple PVCs.
• Document findings on the SWAT nursing flow sheet and in Centricity as per policy.
• Ensure safety of self, patients, and others by following hospital safety guidelines.
• Use equipment correctly and maintain a clean work environment.
• Transport, ambulate, move, and lift patients as needed.
• Assist in positioning patients for procedures like MRI, CT, ultrasound.
• Provide comfort measures such as blankets, hot/cold packs, pillows, etc.

Required Qualifications

• Availability for DAY/NIGHT shifts: 6A-6P & 6P-6A, including weekends and holidays.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Michigan EMT-P licensure.
• At least 3 recent years of experience as a paramedic.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Leadership experience in ED/pre-hospital settings.
• Proficiency in clinical skills like IV insertion, veni-puncture, arrhythmia recognition.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively under emergency pressure.
• Current BLS verification.
• Commitment to at least one year in the SWAT program.
• ACLS certification.
• Clinical pediatric experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Pediatric ALS Provider
• Neonatal ALS Provider
• 3+ years as ALS provider in hospital
• Mobile ICU or CCEMTP experience

Licensure & Certification

Current Michigan Paramedic (A-EMT) licensure is required.

This role is covered under the U-M and UMMAP collective bargaining agreement. Background screening and drug testing are required upon job offer.
