Summary

This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs - Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - Veterans Transportation Services (VTS) - Ambulance Service - VA Medical Center (VAMC) locations with an emergency room, acute or urgent care clinic, or other similar departments performing basic and advanced life support procedures in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Qualifications

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT): Four SPF are required: valid/current state license/certification for Paramedic, current BLS Certification, current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification, and a valid/unrestricted state driver's license. These are prerequisites for consideration.

To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must have:

1. At least one full year of specialized experience at the GS-08 level or equivalent, involving knowledge of body systems, emergency response, patient transportation, communication with dispatchers, knowledge of emergency protocols, and operation of emergency vehicles. This experience must be documented in your resume with job title, duties, dates, and hours per week.
2. Alternatively, two years of graduate education or a master's degree related to the position, or a combination of education and experience as detailed above.

Additional competencies assessed include Clinical Data Collection/Documentation, Emergency Care, First Response, Patient Care, and Transportation.

Physical Requirements

This role involves heavy lifting, prolonged bending, and exposure to hazardous conditions, infectious diseases, and potentially violent individuals. Proper protective equipment and safety protocols are required.

Duties

• Responds to emergencies, provides patient triage, assesses patient condition, and determines transport needs.
• Administers life support care, manages trauma injuries, and operates emergency vehicles and equipment.
• Uses communication systems, reads maps, programs GPS, and ensures vehicle readiness.
• Performs other related duties as necessary.
• Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
