Job description

Paraeducator Special Education

Position Type: Full Time 184 days/6.5 hrs/day - 2024-25 school year

Duties: Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center-based settings. Job duties may include:

1. Managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing disruptive students)
2. Monitoring and recording student progress in areas such as academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.
3. Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Personal Care Assistant certification required within 30 days of start date
• 60 semester/90 quarter credits or an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, or passing the ParaEducator or ParaPro exam (documentation required)

Additional skills include good communication, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills, ability to work with technology, supervise students, take direction, and maintain regular attendance. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and perform physical responsibilities such as toileting, feeding, and self-care procedures, including working with students who may display aggressive or inappropriate behavior. Must be physically present in the building.

Rate of Pay: $18.00/hour, or up to DOQ with K-12 experience; $19.60/hour with AA/AAS degree or equivalent; $20.40/hour with BA degree or higher. Additional pay for serving center-based students or at specific centers.

Start Date: ASAP
