Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools seeks a Special Program Paraeducator 2 to support a student in the Integrated Communication & Sensory Program. This one-on-one role covers a 6.5-hour day for nine months, with non-exempt status under the FLSA.

The position requires collaboration with teachers and related staff, along with adherence to district training and safety procedures. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, relevant experience in education, and strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED and one of: official transcripts for an Associate’s degree or 72 quarter/48 semester credits; OR ETS ParaPro Assessment score of 461 or higher.
  • One year of related experience in education preferred.
  • Experience as part of an educational team preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team to support classroom goals.
  • Ability to problem-solve, analyze, and handle conflict.
  • Experience with children with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect.
  • Work as a team member to assist the teacher and implement goals on individual IEPs.
  • Monitor and collect data as directed by the teacher and support various therapies.
  • Assist with materials preparation and data collection records.
  • Observe student behavior and intervene to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Attend training meetings to broaden expertise in working with students with special needs.
