Accountability
To manage and coordinate the development of activities in relation to preventive and corrective maintenance of the installations in the plant, in accordance with the production targets and budgets, for the purpose of ensuring the optimum operation and availability of installations.
Primary Duties
- Participate as a member of the mill’s Management Team in formulating Strategies, Plans, and Budgets and in monitoring its performance to ensure that the Mill goals are achieved.
- Define respective department strategy (goals/objectives) and is responsible for successful implementation.
- Supervise and control the start-up of projects with new installations to attain the results forecast in terms of deadlines and costs and improvements in productivity or quality.
- Program and control preventive maintenance work, establishing the tests to which the manufacturing equipment is to be subject.
- Minimize downtime and increase machine efficiency by scheduling, overseeing, and performing preventative maintenance on all machinery.
- Oversee the sub-contracting of maintenance for the plant’s installations.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to establish the technical specifications of materials and implement stock control of maintenance parts.
- Proactively manage stock parts and streamline where feasible, cutting down on obsolete items.
- Implement the maintenance budget and monitor its efficiency.
- Manage the routine processing activities typically associated with the Maintenance function at plant level in compliance with the standards set by the Group.
- Ensure that those employed in the Maintenance function have the knowledge and skills, encourage their development and flexibility, coordinate their work, and provide guidance and support whenever necessary.
- Review, on a regular basis, the processes in the Maintenance function and, with other members of the Mill’s Management Team, processes within the businesses upon which the Maintenance function is dependent, to ensure that they are delivering what is required in an effective manner.
- Ensure that the entire team works towards common goals and objectives.
- Define KPIs for the Maintenance Department and ensure timely follow-up and delivery with monthly reports to Mill Manager.
- Advise the Mill Manager at the earliest opportunity of any concerns regarding the Performance of the department and/or its processes.
- Strive for best in class Maintenance function within the Industry, adapting new ideas, concepts from others within and outside the industry.
- Keep up to date on new developments and foster learning & development among the team; oversee that cross-training takes place among the team.
- Perform other work-related duties and project work as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge And Experience
- English, Spanish (preferable).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred.
- 10+ years’ experience in TQM, ISO, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Process Improvement.
- Good knowledge of ANSI/ISO/SFI/FSC/GMP; Quality Management Systems.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (verbal and written), comfortable representing the company positively.
- High energy, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate & develop both senior and junior level staff.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
- Excellent analytical skills, methodical approach, and commercial acumen.
