Job summary

UNC Health in Holly Springs, NC, is hiring for a Student Nurse Extern I (SNE I) to join a medical-surgical unit undergoing expansion. The extern will work with an RN partner to provide supervised nursing care within the Nursing Assistant I scope of practice.

Targeted at rising senior ADN/BSN students, this paid 10-week program offers hands-on experience, skill development, and transition opportunities toward professional nursing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Listed Nursing Assistant I with NC DHHS required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports changes to a RN or provider.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Performs care/treatments per plan of care including vital signs, wound care, glucose checks, and activities of daily living.
• Provides indirect care: cleaning, restocking, transport, and facilitating orientation of new staff and students.
• Reinforces routine teaching and documents patient understanding.
• Aids providers with routine examinations and procedures and procurement of equipment.
• In psychiatric settings, supports patients with orientation, behavior plans, de-escalation, and milieu activities.
