Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from the start of the externship.
• High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy.
• RN Assistant I licensure and BLS certification are required per the program.

Responsibilities

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information; reports significant changes to the RN.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge processes.
• Performs routine nursing care tasks per plan of care (vital signs, measurements, wound care, etc.).
• Provides direct personal care for activities of daily living and supports patient mobility.
• Maintains unit and patient area cleanliness and restocks supplies.
• Reinforces teaching and supports learning with patients and families.
