Job summary

City Year in Kansas is seeking an entry-level, paid full-time Student Success Coach and Mentor as part of the AmeriCorps program. You will coach and mentor students, help improve attendance and academic skills, and collaborate with teachers.

No prior experience required; 2-4 weeks of training at the start of the year. You must be 17–25 by 2025, have a GED/high school diploma (or some college/degree), and pass a background check. Start July/Aug 2025 with benefits and a living stipend.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident.
• Be 17–25 years old by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location).

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support school initiatives to increase engagement with students and families.
