Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps is seeking an entry-level Student success coach and mentor to work full-time in Kansas. You will coach and mentor students, support teachers, and help raise attendance and academics while developing positive school behaviors.

You will participate in 2–4 weeks of training, collaborate with staff, and engage families through school initiatives and programs. This role offers benefits and a path to service with City Year.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities and encourage assignment completion
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming before, during and after school
• Create or co-lead events that recognize student growth in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior
