Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a Climbing Arborist Trainee in Mokena, IL to start as an intern and learn tree care on the job. The role involves climbing trees, pruning, removal, and assisting with cables, bracing, and safety systems under supervision.

You’ll work with a tree crew on site and gain hands-on experience in arboriculture. Starting pay is $20–$23 per hour with benefits and opportunities for advancement; travel up to 25% may apply as you grow your skills within a large

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and work as part of a tree crew.
• Progressively learn pruning and removal services.
• Identify trees and follow pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood in the canopy.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in hazardous tree removal.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, lifts.
