Job summary
The Davey Tree Expert Company in Mokena, IL is seeking a climbing arborist trainee to join our on-site team. You’ll learn to climb trees, work as part of a crew, and perform pruning and removal tasks with safety and skill.
The role offers hands-on training and progression opportunities. You will complete required safety certifications (First Aid/CPR, defensive driving) and the company Orientation program on hire, with potential pesticide licenses as applicable.
Qualifications
- Love of the outdoors.
- Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
- Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
Responsibilities
- Learn to climb trees and progress with the tree crew
- Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
- Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal safely and skillfully
- Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
- Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the canopy
- Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
- Assist in removal of hazardous trees
- Maintain, prepare and operate tools and equipment (chainsaws, chippers, lifts)
