Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a climbing arborist trainee for on-site work in Crystal Lake, IL. You will be part of a tree crew, learning climbing, pruning, removal, and safety practices while gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment.

Starting pay is $20–$23 per hour plus benefits as you complete the company training programs. Opportunities for advancement exist within a large, employee-owned network across the United States.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in forestry or horticulture preferred.
• Complete Davey Tree Orientation Program upon hire.
• Complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: pesticide licenses/certificates as required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees as a member of a tree crew.
• Progressively learn new skills on pruning and removal tasks.
• Perform pruning and removal safely according to industry guidelines.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees and proper tool operation (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Growth depends on your effort and training.
