Job summary

York Container Company Midwest in Elgin, IL is seeking a Maintenance Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment in a fast-paced corrugated packaging facility. You will support equipment reliability by performing preventive maintenance and basic electrical work, while minimizing downtime and ensuring safety and operational efficiency.

The role requires interpreting mechanical drawings, using hand and power tools, and working overtime or on weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (technical or trade school preferred).
• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems (bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes).
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems (motors, sensors, basic controls).
• Basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on production equipment.
• Experience using hand and power tools safely.
• Read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking and reporting.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and a rotating schedule as needed.
• Proficiency in English for safety and quality communications.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on corrugators, conveyors, die cutters, stackers, and other equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to minimize downtime.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and production issues.
• Inspect machinery to identify potential problems and recommend corrective actions.
