Job summary

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is seeking a Retail General Manager to oversee daily store operations, production levels, and the sales floor, ensuring top customer service, merchandising, and inventory control. The role leads scheduling, budgeting, reporting, and safety compliance while driving efficiency and store profitability.

The GM will manage staff and volunteers, coordinate across divisions, and may work at other locations as needed, maintaining strong communication and adherence to

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• 5+ years retail experience; progressive management and supervising 15+ staff.
• Experience selecting, coaching and developing associates.
• P&L ownership.
• Ability to schedule store staff.
• Strong English communication; both written and oral.
• Strong math and computer skills.
• Broad knowledge of thrift and resale industry.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform the same functions as direct reports.
• Ability to complete paperwork and reports.
• Good judgment and decision making.
• Flexible schedule including opening/closing and peak hours.
• Willingness to work at other locations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee overall operation of the retail store including opening/closing procedures.
• Manage production levels and merchandise quality for revenue optimization.
• Manage inventory levels across merchandise lines.
• Ensure proper donations flow while adhering to safety and state laws.
• Maintain staffing levels and payroll per Goodwill policies.
• Oversee volunteers and temporary staff as needed.
• Submit reports such as surveys, production and sales reports.
• Review profit and loss statements and adjust operations.
• Ensure daily banking requirements are met.
• Set and manage staff schedules to meet store needs.
• Track time and attendance and payroll deadlines.
• Maintain communication with all divisions and stores.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve complaints.
• Enforce organizational policies.
• Aim to reduce turnover through training and motivation.
• Other duties as assigned.
