Job summary

Good Shepherd Services in Brooklyn, NY seeks an Youth Development Counselor for the Overnight Shift to ensure participant safety and support daily activities.

The role requires on-site work, a valid NY driver’s license, and flexibility for evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Sanctuary Model training and trauma-informed care are core to daily practice, with opportunities to impact youth and families meaningfully.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Excellent written, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Valid Driver's License; able to drive in the New York Metro areas including the five boroughs and Long Island.
• Ability to work evenings, overnight, weekend and holiday hours.
• Must complete state mandated crisis intervention training and perform physical restraint of a resident.
• Must be able to participate in creating a safe, trauma-informed milieu.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the whereabouts and safety of participants at all times.
• Plan, lead and engage participants in activities including recreational, family, tutoring, cultural events, evenings or weekends.
• Escort participants to court, school, medical visits and other appointments.
• Monitor participants’ school performance and provide homework assistance.
• Attend team meetings and document daily activities and critical events.
• Practice Sanctuary Model tools to foster a non-violent culture and trauma-informed care.
