Job summary

Good Shepherd Services—Rose House in New York is seeking a Youth Development Counselor to support residents in our residential program. The role emphasizes caring, personal attention and trauma-informed practice.

You will supervise residents, deliver individual and group counseling, coordinate court-ordered visits, maintain records, and participate in training. This is a 40-hour, on-site position with day, evening or overnight shifts and some weekends.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to complete and pass all components of required physical intervention training.
• Must successfully complete a pre-hire physical ability test.
• Ability to perform physical restraint of youth using approved restraint procedures.
• Must be capable of sustained physical exertion and have no limitations on ability to engage in necessary physical intervention activities.
• Must have a commitment to work from a strength based, youth development and trauma-informed perspective.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and be accountable for residents at all times.
• Manage residents' behavior; maintain order.
• Provide individual and group counseling and coordinate court-ordered visits.
• Maintain records, logs, and documentation.
• Participate in planning and execution of educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
• Ensure safe transportation for residents to court-ordered appointments.
• Attend mandatory training and adhere to DYFJ and OCFS regulations.
