Job summary

HomeFirst, a nonprofit serving the Bay Area, is seeking a Temporary Shift Supervisor for the Overnight Warming Location in San Jose. The role manages day-to-day shelter operations, supervises Resident Advocates/Coordinators, and ensures safety and compliance. Strong communication, crisis response, and leadership are essential.

Program runs through April 2027 with benefits provided. Reporting to the Program Manager, the position requires a graveyard shift and non-exempt status.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to develop client service or housing plans.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience working with unhoused populations preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifts.
• Knowledge of local social service resources.
• Experience supervising staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Direct Client Service (90%): ensure service delivery standards; supervise participants, guests, and staff; enforce shelter guidelines; assist with referrals, intakes, reports, and coverage; oversee schedules, PTO, and timecards; participate in staff recruitment and onboarding; ensure shift staffing requirements; de-escalate crises; document services in HMIS within 3 business days; maintain confidentiality.
• General (10%): represent HomeFirst to volunteers and partners; assist with office tasks; attend meetings and trainings; perform other duties as assigned.
