Job summary

Simpson Housing Services seeks a Shift Supervisor to manage an overnight Emergency Shelter within Simpson Community Shelter and Apartments in Minneapolis. The role combines staff supervision with direct service to ensure guests’ basic needs are met in a clean, hospitable environment.

You will advocate for participants and coordinate referrals as needed. The position is full-time with primarily overnight hours, Friday night through Monday night, midnight–10 am, with possible daytime meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services or Community Development; or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
• 4 years’ experience working with diverse populations, individuals experiencing mental and/or chemical health issues, homelessness and poverty.
• Skilled in organizational abilities, relationship building, excellent communication, and navigation of the Twin Cities’ social service system.
• Driver's license and vehicle required to transport program participants as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for overnight shelter operations and coverage of front desk and dining room; uphold shelter rules.
• Supervise overnight staff and coordinate with Shelter Program Manager and Business Operations/Facilities teams.
• Maintain supplies and coordinate building/equipment maintenance.
• Support guests with crises and safety; manage emergencies and ensure safety of participants and staff.
• Complete data entry and maintain confidentiality of participant records.
• Recruit, supervise, train, evaluate, and on-board staff; participate in performance evaluations.
