Job summary

River City Construction is seeking an experienced overhead distribution worker for on-site positions in Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining high-voltage equipment, with travel to multiple locations as needed.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of field experience, a CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days, and the physical ability for demanding outdoor work and climbing structures.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of recent field experience.
• Work for extended periods in multiple locations.
• Lift more than 50 lbs.
• Willing to work overtime when requested.
• Willingness to glove/work live high voltage power lines.

Responsibilities

• Lead crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
• Set poles and anchors.
• Install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
• Troubleshoot trouble in primary and secondary systems.
• Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
• Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
• Perform rigorous physical labor.
• Can identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
• Must be familiar with induced voltage.
• Understand grounding procedures.
• Work at heights or confined spaces.
• Install and remove PPE and cover up.
• Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel) and have the necessary tools to do so.
• Must understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
• Plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
• Understand how to obtain a one shot on a recloser.
• Can conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing.
• Can safely perform a reconductoring job.
• Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
• Understand how to use a load bust tool.
• Does all other related work to complete the job.
• Can work outside, frequently in inclement weather conditions.

Education

CDL License or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
