Job summary

UC Irvine Health seeks a qualified Coder II to perform abstracting and coding of outpatient visits at UCI Medical Center. You will use ICD-9-CM and CPT with 3M encoder and SMS/Invision, and prepare production reports.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of HIM for Operations, you will support PI projects and other duties to meet operational needs while maintaining coding accuracy and timeliness.

Qualifications

• Completed 12-month AHIMA approved coding certificate program.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to assign codes accurately and efficiently.
• Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Minimum two years of acute hospital coding experience.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease processes and medical terminology.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

Responsibilities

• Abstract and code outpatient visits (ED, ambulatory surgery and clinics) using ICD-9-CM and CPT.
• Utilize the 3M encoder and SMS/Invision for coding and data entry.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly production reports.
• Participate in departmental PI projects and related duties as assigned.
• Meet operational needs and maintain high accuracy in coding.
