Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking an Outpatient Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and CPT coding for outpatient encounters, ER, therapy and clinics, following established guidelines and regulatory requirements.

The role requires AHIMA or AAPC credentials (RHIT/RHIA/CCS/CPC family) and at least one year of outpatient coding experience or completion of the Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program. Strong communication and EMR proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in health information management or AHIMA/ACGME accredited program, or equivalent experience
• One year outpatient coding experience or completion of Houston Methodist Coding Apprentice Program
• Must hold AHIMA or AAPC credentials from the listed options

Responsibilities

• Interact with coding team and stakeholders to ensure accurate coding
• Query physicians for diagnoses/procedures via established processes
• Maintain coding quality and adhere to AHIMA guidelines and hospital policy
• Work with EHR and coding software to assign correct codes and data
