Job summary

Southeastern Freight Lines is seeking a Full-Time Outbound Freight Handler in the United States. You will load and unload freight onto equipment, assist in recouping damaged freight, and prepare trailers for departure on the second shift.

The role emphasizes safety, proper lifting techniques, and accurate documentation of shipments. You should have a High School Diploma or GED, be able to pass background and drug screens, and ideally have prior forklift, dock, warehouse, or material handler

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
• Must be able to satisfactorily pass a background check and an alcohol and drug test.
• Prior forklift operator/dock/warehouse/material handler experience is preferred.
• Forklift certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight onto and off of equipment.
• Assist in the recouping of damaged freight.
• Prepare, sweep, inspect and clean trailers before loading freight.
• Use safe lifting techniques to properly load and unload freight.
• Select and use proper freight handling equipment (forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.).
• Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification and safe handling.
• Plan cube utilization and weight distribution when loading freight.
• Count and inspect freight, document shortages or damage.
• Review freight bills for special instructions and check manifests for exceptions.
• Verify hazardous material descriptions and proper placarding when loading hazardous material.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
