Job summary

Southeastern Freight Lines is seeking a PT Outbound Freight Handler to load and unload freight, prepare trailers, and ensure safe handling. Responsibilities include weighing/dimensioning shipments, inspecting for damage, and verifying paperwork and hazardous material requirements.

Background check and drug testing are required, with forklift experience preferred. Typical pay ranges from $18.10 to $21.60 per hour with a second shift schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Must be able to pass a background check and an alcohol/drug test.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight onto and off equipment.
• Prepare, sweep, inspect and clean trailers before loading.
• Use proper lifting techniques and equipment to move freight.
• Weigh and dimension shipments for proper classification and safe handling.
• Plan cube utilization and weight distribution when loading.
• Inspect freight, document shortages or damage, and review freight bills.
• Check manifests and labels against freight bills and special instructions.
• Verify hazardous material descriptions and placarding when loading hazardous material.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
