Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program required OR program currently participating in accreditation process
• Less than 1 year experience as a Surgical Scrub technologist

Responsibilities

• Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure and maintains sterile field throughout
• Assists surgical team before, during, and after surgery and anticipates surgeon needs
• Checks instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures
• Scrubs, gowns, gloves, and sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications
• Assists with patient placement and positioning; assists in draping sterile field
• Performs counts for sponges, needles, and instruments with circulator prior to incision and before closure
• Gowns and gloving of the surgeon and assistants; maintains sterile field
• Passes instruments to surgeon; may sponge operative site and assist with retractors, sutures, and vessel cauterization as directed
• Assists with cleaning the operating room and prep room for next patient
• Participates in department performance improvement activities
