Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to facilitate operative procedures by preparing sterile instruments and supplies, maintaining the sterile field, and assisting the surgical team in the OR. The role requires knowledge of aseptic technique, ability to anticipate needs, and collaboration with the circulating RN.

Responsibilities include equipment assembly, specimen labeling, Draping assistance, pre/post room cleaning, and active participation in safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree or vocational certification in Surgical Technology required, unless hiring into a Labor and Delivery unit in Ohio where preferred.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification required at hire.
• One year perioperative experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Functions as the scrub person and assists during operative procedures.
• Assembles supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Maintains sterile field and assists with drapes and aseptic technique.
• Retrieves and labels specimens; reports implanted devices and drains.
• Prepares case materials and adapts instrument needs for patient populations.
• Performs pre/post procedure cleaning of room and instruments.
• Participates in patient safety measures and on-call requirements.
• Assists with orientation of new staff and students.
