  • Assist with planning, organizing, scheduling department workload and daily assignments.
  • Manage departmental employees with performance feedback and training.
  • Inspect facility condition and take corrective actions.
  • Prepare patient and environment for age-specific needs; transport patients as needed.
  • Coordinate staffing resources with Holding Area Nurse.
  • Ensure safe care within policy and budget; support education and growth.
  • Precept, mentor and provide resources to less experienced staff.

Job Summary

OR Scheduling Coordinator, Days

  • Full time; 8:30am-5pm, Monday-Friday
  • 1+ years of hospital or physician office experience preferred
  • OR scheduling and/or call center experience preferred
  • Customer Service experience preferred
  • Must have good computer skills. Microsoft Excel experience required.

This position is located at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center.

Position responsible for assisting with managing the activities of assigned OR Department.

  • Schedule elective, urgent, add-on, and emergent surgical procedures according to established departmental guidelines and surgeon block utilization standards.
  • Assist with Block schedule coordination for surgical scheduling for multiple specialties, including trauma, orthopedics, neurosurgery, cardiovascular, transplant, general surgery, and other surgical service lines.
  • Assist with verification, completion, and accuracy of all scheduling Block information prior to final case placement.
  • Ensure surgical cases are scheduled according to surgeon preferences, equipment requirements, staffing availability, and regulatory standards.
  • Prioritize trauma and emergency cases while balancing elective surgical throughput and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with working same-day Block & Surgical schedule changes, cancellations, delays, and surgeon requests with minimal disruption to patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Licenses/Certifications: (none)

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred, in some departments may be required
  • Ability to read and write and perform duties following oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to work various shifts for extended periods as determined by the director
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds
Principal Accountabilities
  • Assists the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with: planning, organizing, scheduling department workload, and making daily work assignments.
  • Assists the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with managing departmental employees: provides daily performance feedback to employees as required, gives input into performance appraisals, conducts quality inspections, participates in interviews, and supervises employee training processes.
  • Inspects physical condition of facility and takes appropriate corrective actions.
  • As needed, will assist with physical preparation of patient and physical environment according to the age/needs of the patient/population served. Transports and transfers patients as necessary. Functions as a porter between departments ensuring required medical supplies, information, specimens, and products are delivered in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborates with Holding Area Nurse to provide staffing resources to the Holding Area.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
