Job summary

Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring, MD seeks a Registered Nurse - Surgery for full-time day shift. The OR RN will apply the nursing process in the operating room, performing pre-operative assessments, scrubbing, circulating, and ensuring patient safety throughout procedures.

The role emphasizes collaboration with the surgical team to develop individualized care plans, educate patients and families, and plan ongoing continuum of care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program; basic professional nursing degree with requirement to obtain a BSN/MSN within a specific time frame.
• Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS certification (American Heart Association).
• At least 1 year of nursing experience in a surgical setting (scrubbing and circulating).

Responsibilities

• Using the Quality Caring Model, demonstrates acceptable performance and applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of routine patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
• Plans and delivers patient care in the operating room setting for patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
• Collaborates with the surgical team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
• Performs pre-operative assessments, including reviewing patient histories and conducting physical examinations.
• Performs scrub functions including selection and handling of instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Performs circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communication of patient condition.
• Monitors patients' vital signs and ensures their safety and comfort throughout the surgical process.
• Assists with specimen collection, processing, and documentation.
• Educates patients and family.
• Plans continuum of care.
