The OR team applies the Quality Caring Model to ensure safe, coordinated patient care throughout the perioperative process. Minimum qualifications include an accredited nursing degree, Maryland RN licensure, BLS certification and at least 1

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program; requirement to obtain a BSN/MSN within a specific time frame.
• Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse.
• BLS certification (American Heart Association).
• At least 1 year of nursing experience in a surgical setting (scrubbing and circulating).

Responsibilities

• Using the Quality Caring Model, demonstrate performance and apply the nursing process to plan and manage care of routine patients.
• Plan and deliver patient care in the operating room setting for patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Perform pre-operative assessments, including reviewing histories and conducting physical exams.
• Perform scrub functions including instrument handling during procedures.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring and communicating patient condition.
• Monitor vital signs and ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical process.
• Educate patients and families; plan continuum of care.
