Job summary

VSP Vision is seeking an ophthalmic assistant to support optometrists during eye exams and pre-testing. You will gather patient history, document findings, and guide clients through the clinical experience.

You will work with clinical instruments, manage inventories, and help with patient flow while maintaining high-quality care and precise recordkeeping. Prior experience and MS Office familiarity are valued for this fast-paced role.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in a related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Effective verbal communication to prioritize tasks and handle inquiries.
• Effective written communication to document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to ask relevant questions to identify patient needs.
• Ability to listen, process transactions and interact with patients in a fast-paced environment.
• For remote/hybrid roles, strong engagement in virtual environments including camera presence.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Optometrist with eye examinations and patient eye care.
• Conduct pre-testing or special testing and gather patient history.
• Guide patients throughout the eye care and clinical experience.
• Prepare patients and document information in their records.
• Operate clinical instruments and take measurements.
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed.
• Support patient flow and communicate with staff and doctors.
• Cross-train in different departments and assist with other duties as needed.
