Job summary

VSP Vision is seeking a team-oriented individual to assist optometrists with eye examinations and patient care. You will conduct pre-testing, gather patient history, and guide patients through the clinical experience to ensure smooth visits.

The role requires 1–2 years of relevant experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work with clinical instruments and staff in a fast-paced environment. VSP Vision emphasizes equal opportunity and patient-centered service.

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiries.
• Effective written communication skills to clearly document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needs.
• Ability to listen, process transactions and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• For roles that are remote (i.e., Work From Home or hybrid), must demonstrate a high level of engagement in virtual environments, including maintaining camera presence during meetings to support effective communication and team alignment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients before the examination by gathering information about the patient’s vision and medical history, explaining the exam process, and documenting all needed information in the patient’s record.
• Operate clinical instruments, take measurements, and administer tests to determine visual capabilities in preparation for the vision examination.
• Perform contact lens insertion; educate and train patients on insertion and removal.
• Order contact lenses of various types of materials and designs and manage contact lens trials inventory.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications.
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed.
• Prioritize patient care and patient flow while communicating effectively with doctors, staff, and patients.
• Under theOptometrist direction, perform therapy exercises or procedures with the patient.
• Assist in other areas of the office such as answering phones, verifying insurance, checking in patients, scanning charts, maintaining a clean office, and check-in/out.
• Work on special projects, cross-train in different departments, and perform other related duties as assigned.
