Job summary

VSP Vision is seeking a patient-focused assistant to support the Optometrist in eye examinations and patient care. The role involves assisting with pre-testing, taking patient history, and guiding patients through the clinical experience.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, operating instruments, instructing on contact lens use, administering medications, and aiding with check-in, insurance verification, and office operations as needed.

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Effective verbal communication to prioritize multiple tasks and handle inquiries.
• Effective written communication to document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with patients.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Optometrist with eye examinations and patient eye care.
• Conduct pre-testing or special testing and gather patient history information.
• Prepare patients and document information in the patient record.
• Operate clinical instruments and take measurements for exams.
• Educate patients on contact lens care and manage trials.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications.
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed.
• Support patient flow, communicate with staff, and manage check-in/check-out.
• Cross-train in departments and assist with other duties as requested.
