Job summary

VisionWorks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to prepare patients for exams, conduct pre-testing, and explain each step of the process. You will liaise between patients and Optometrists and support both in-person and remote eye examinations.

Responsibilities include EMR data entry, insurance preauthorization, patient education on contact lenses, and scheduling. A positive patient experience and strong organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect pertinent information, submitting it into EMR.
• Assist on-site doctor with patient care and eye examinations; explain testing steps.
• Assist remote exams: pre-testing, testing, and telemedicine coordination with remote staff.
• Transition patients to a retail associate after exam, conveying doctor recommendations.
• Understand vision care plans and articulate plan benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance following SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books according to company guidelines.
• Maintain patient flow to optimize doctor efficiency.
• Answer clinical questions in person and by phone; triage ocular emergencies and annual exams.
• Maintain accurate patient records per company standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens insertion, care, and handling.
• Place contact lens orders and notify patients when available for dispensing.
• Knowledge of contact lens brands and parameters; pull trials as requested.
• Ensure clean, organized environment and proper calibration/covering of equipment nightly.
• Participate in specialized training and complete required clinical certifications.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including travel to other locations.
