Job summary

IDEX Corporation is seeking an Opto-Electronics Engineer to design and analyze ophthalmic, laser, and illumination systems. The role emphasizes optics, electronics, Zemax modeling, and hands-on lab prototyping across RD&E projects.

The position requires strong data analysis skills, experience with optical test equipment, and collaboration with mechanical/CAD teams. A background in optics hardware and laser technologies is essential for success.

Qualifications

BS in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with 2–4 years of relevant experience.
Master's degree in related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
Experience with optical test and evaluation equipment; photometric and radiometric measurements.
Experience with optical design software such as Zemax.
Understanding of electronics fundamentals, including analog circuits, signal conditioning, sensor interfaces, and basic embedded/control systems.
Experience with laser diode drivers, photodiodes, detectors, DAQ hardware or related opto-electronic systems.
Familiarity with schematic interpretation and laboratory debugging techniques.

Responsibilities

Apply concepts of optics, electronics, and laser physics to optical imaging systems.
Model and optimize 3D optical systems.
Design and prototype bench-top optical systems.
Collaborate with optomechanical and CAD designers on tooling and tolerances.
Analyze test data and perform statistical analysis.
