Job summary

Walmart Inc. is seeking an Optical Associate in Chesterfield, MO. You will assist customers with eyewear selection, measure pupillary distance, adjust frames, and process eyewear orders while ensuring HIPAA-compliant record-keeping.

Responsibilities include stocking, merchandising, handling payments, and educating members on eyewear care. This role requires ABO licensure progress, state licensure, and adherence to imaging and lab coordination with optometrists.

Qualifications

• Must obtain ABO certification within 15 months of hire.
• Must obtain state-required optician licensure within 18 months of hire.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required or within 12 months of hire to sit for ABO exam.
• Willingness to register and maintain own NPI number as required by state law.
• Must complete all applicable state licensure requirements and obtain optician licensure within 3 months of completing the minimum apprenticeship hours.
• Experience in health care or retail setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with eyewear selection and maintenance.
• Process optical eyewear and contact lens orders, monitor trial lens inventory, and ensure calibration and cleanliness of optical equipment.
• Measure pupillary distance and position of wear for various lens types.
• Perform frame adjustments and repairs and complete the final inspection of eyewear prior to dispensing.
• Handle payments, returns, and exchanges using POS and different membership types.
• Educate members on eyewear usage and care and support contact lens insertions and hygiene guidance.
• Maintain and file records in HIPAA compliance.

Education

High school diploma or GED

ABO certification and/or eligibility

State licensure for optician (apprentice/licensed)
