Job summary

Sam's Club is seeking an Optical Associate to support eyewear services and patient care on the sales floor. You will assist members with purchasing decisions, measure pupillary distance, and ensure accurate prescription verification.

You will process eyewear orders, handle insurance claims, and coordinate with labs and optometrists as part of a compliant optical service. Training and licensure requirements are emphasized, with opportunities for professional growth within the optical department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; ABO certification within 15 months of hire.
• Must meet state licensure requirements to become apprentice and obtain licensure within 18 months; completion of minimum apprenticeship hours.
• Licensed/Registered States Only: able to obtain optician licensure within 3 months after completing apprenticeship hours.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers with eyewear purchases and explain options for frames and lenses.
• Process optical orders, calibrate equipment, and verify prescriptions.
• Maintain the Optical area, restock merchandise, and ensure cleanliness and organization.
• Perform pre-testing, patient appointments, and communicate with labs and optometrists as needed.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and proper documentation for insurance claims and eyewear services.

Education

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

ABO certification within 15 months

State licensure within 3 months of completing apprenticeship hours
