Job summary

UC San Diego Health's Ophthalmology Department at Shiley Eye Institute seeks a Per Diem Administrative Assistant to support physicians and the ophthalmic tech team. You will read and triage MyChart messages and phone inquiries to ensure timely patient communication, while assisting with IN Basket management and scheduling for urgent care services.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients and staff.
• Ability to set priorities and maintain composure under high workload.
• Familiarity with clinic triage guidelines and patient needs assessment.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic medications and medical records structure.
• Experience screening calls and directing callers to appropriate resources.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality per UCSD policies.

Responsibilities

• Read and sort incoming MyChart messages and phone messages for prompt response.
• Assist with IN Basket management for Fellows and registry upkeep.
• Support verification of insurance, patient registration, and scheduling for urgent care.
• Maintain an organized work area and perform general tech admin duties as assigned.
• Work under supervision of the Assistant Director of Ophthalmology.
