Job summary

UC San Diego SHS Optometry Clinic seeks a skilled assistant to support daily optical operations and clinical tasks. You will assist with frame and lens fitting, process contact lens orders, and provide customer service to students and affiliates.

Under supervision, you will record vision test results in Epic EMR, verify insurance, schedule appointments and maintain optical inventory. The role emphasizes professionalism, confidentiality and teamwork in a diverse student setting.

Qualifications

Knowledge of optometry operations and equipment handling.
Experience with EMR systems (preferably Epic) and scheduling software.
Ability to take prescriptions and document patient records.
Experience assisting with frames, lenses and contact lens orders.
Excellent verbal and written communication and strong customer service.
Ability to process payments and manage receipts with accuracy.
Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking ability.
Professionalism and adherence to privacy standards (HIPAA/FERPA).
Willingness to coordinate with clinicians and staff to support clinic operations.

Assist Optometrist Supervisor, Lead Technician and staff with daily clinic operations.
Conduct preliminary vision tests and record results in Epic EMR.
Provide contact lens training and support customers choosing frames and supplies.

Maintain optical inventory and process orders, billing and payments.
Deliver excellent customer service to students and affiliates.
