Job summary

The University of California - San Diego Medical Centers is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support patient care and clinic operations at the Shiley Eye Center and regional satellites.

You will perform vision tests, assist with minor laser procedures and injections, and help maintain organized, sterile exam rooms under physician supervision. Travel to satellite clinics may be required, with variable hours including Saturdays.

Qualifications

• Requires college-level science background or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of laboratory hygiene, biohazard handling, and universal precautions.
• Ability to perform ophthalmic tests (tonometry, visual fields, acuity) and document results.
• Strong communication with patients and medical staff, and ability to educate patients.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with minor in-office laser procedures and injections.
• Maintain timely and courteous patient flow and organize each examination room.
• Stock examination rooms and ensure equipment is clean and ready for use.
