Job summary

Target Optical, part of EssilorLuxottica, seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to ensure high-quality eye care and a seamless patient experience, linking the doctor with support staff. The role covers patient examinations, pre-exam testing, imaging, and maintaining records under HIPAA.

Weekend/evening availability and accurate attention to detail are essential. Strong customer service, communication, and ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced setting are preferred; prior optical or healthcare

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• 1+ year of strong customer service skills (internal/external).
• Strong communicator and listener.
• Problem solving ability.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to assess priorities and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to use exam software, POS technology and ophthalmic equipment.
• Ability to work autonomously.
• Knowledge of office environment.
• Strong basic math skills.
• Experience in healthcare/clinical setting (preferred).
• Previous customer service/retail/optical experience (preferred).
• JCAHPO Certification(s) (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient care and eye exams, including managing patient records and supporting patient flow.
• Performs preliminary evaluations including patient histories, medication lists, visual acuities, and refraction.
• Performs special testing including OCTs, biometry, topography, and retinal imaging.
• Explains measurements and answers patient questions during pre-exam testing.
• Identifies dissatisfied patients and resolves issues promptly.
• Maintains accurate records and HIPAA compliance.
• Utilizes appointment books and computer systems for scheduling.
• Maintains safe environment for patients and team.
• Adapts to various exam scenarios and remains personable.
• Responsible for maintenance and disinfection of equipment and exam lanes.
• Works weekends and evenings as needed.
• Follows attendance and time-keeping requirements.
• Adheres to company policies and dress code.
• Fulfills duties assigned by lead technician or ophthalmologist.
