Job summary

Midwest Vision Partners in Flint, MI is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to greet patients, explain what to expect, and escort them to exam rooms while documenting information in the EMR before the physician sees them.

You will perform diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, tonometry and lensometry, apply eye drops, assist with minor procedures, and educate patients on medications and post‑operative care. You will maintain HIPAA compliance and support the team with daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and enter information into EMR.
  • Explain what patients should expect during the visit and communicate delays or changes.
  • Document chief complaint, present illness, and past medical history.
  • Record information in EMR according to standards and physician requirements.
  • Conduct tests and measures eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.
  • Apply eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Assist with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
  • Educate patients on medication administration and pre/post operative instructions.
  • Scribe for physician and safeguard medical records while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • De-escalate dissatisfied patients with effective problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, and ocular medications.
  • Stay current with latest technologies and be able to answer general patient questions.
  • Assist team members and complete other special projects.
