Job summary

Fraser Eye Care in Michigan is seeking a Surgical Boarding Coordinator for our Ambulatory Surgery Center. You will manage scheduling, prepare patients, and coordinate with physicians, nurses, and anesthesia to ensure a smooth surgical flow from pre-op to post-op.

Key duties include maintaining patient records in the EHR, verifying insurance, and providing clear pre-operative instructions, while communicating compassionately with patients and staff to support excellent care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.
• Experience in a medical office or surgical scheduling highly desirable.
• Familiarity with outpatient surgical procedures and workflows.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Schedule surgical procedures based on physician orders, availability, patient needs, and operating room availability.
• Communicate with patients to provide information about their surgeries, pre-operative instructions, and any necessary preparations.
• Coordinate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia and staff to confirm details and ensure resources.
• Verify patients’ insurance coverage and pre-authorization requirements with billing.
• Maintain accurate patient records and schedules in the EHR system.
• Follow up with patients post-surgery to check recovery and schedule follow-ups.
• Address scheduling conflicts and resolve issues to ensure efficient operations.
• Collect and organize pre-operative paperwork and consent forms.
• Act as liaison between patients and medical staff for scheduling questions.
• Provide general administrative support like answering calls and filing.
