Job summary

Louisiana Eye and Laser is seeking a Patient Counselor to coordinate ophthalmic surgery scheduling at the ambulatory center and local hospitals. The role acts as a liaison between patients, surgeons, and preop staff, requiring clear communication and a strong understanding of ophthalmic practice and insurance coverage.

The candidate should demonstrate attention to detail, professionalism, and empathy, with ability to multi-task and use EMR systems. Experience in ophthalmology is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Highschool Diploma or equivalent.
• Two years in medical practice experience preferred.
• Ophthalmology practice experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintains surgical schedule for surgeons.
• Communicates with patients about scheduling, preop testing and visits, insurance requirements, and consents.
• Coordinates paperwork and ensures patient confidentiality.
• Supports preop staff, surgeons and facility staff in daily operations.
• Handles travel, transportation, and financial hardship assistance as needed.
• Keeps daily log and weekly spreadsheet; attends required meetings.
