The ideal candidate has 0–2 years in ophthalmic assisting, a GED or higher, and comfortable using EMR systems.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate; GED acceptable; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 0–2 years ophthalmic assistant experience.
  • Able to operate EMR/EHR systems and document patient data accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
  • Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
  • Perform tests (OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry) per exam.
  • Conduct lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp exam with tonometry and anterior chamber assessment.
  • Assist physician as scribe and document in EMR or paper charts.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications as directed.
  • Support informed consent and patient education processes.
  • Manage patient flow and maintain exam room cleanliness.
