Job summary

NJRetina in Jersey City, part of PRISM Vision Group, seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians with measurements, testing, and documentation. The role is on-site in Jersey City with occasional travel to other locations based on business needs.

The candidate will conduct ocular and systemic history taking, perform tests such as OCT and automated visual fields, and assist with patient education and flow throughout the day.

Qualifications

• Requires ophthalmic assistant experience or exposure to ophthalmology settings.
• Education: High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred for related fields.
• Follows compliance standards and documents patient data accurately.

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
• Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
• Perform tests (OCT, automated fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry).
• Conduct slit lamp exams including tonometry and anterior chamber assessment.
• Assist with scribing and data entry into EMR or paper charts.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications as instructed.
• Support patient education and manage patient flow.
• Maintain exam room cleanliness and adhere to procedures.
