Job summary

Burke & Herbert Bank & Trust in an office setting is seeking an Operations Risk Manager to strengthen the bank's first line of defense by shaping risk identification, monitoring, control execution, QA, and regulatory reporting across Operations. This role partners with business leaders to proactively manage operational risk, improve controls, and support regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, finance, or related field.
• 3+ years in data collection, QA, auditing or similar roles.
• 3+ years of people management experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the Operations First Line of Defense risk management framework.
• Lead the Quality Assurance team responsible for transaction reviews and monitoring activities.
• Coordinate Operational Risk Assessments, Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), and control documentation activities across Operations functions.
• Monitor operational risk metrics, KPIs, KRIs, and emerging risk trends.
• Oversee issue management including corrective action plans, remediation tracking, and validation testing.
• Partner with department leaders to identify control deficiencies and implement sustainable solutions.
• Ensure procedures and controls align with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and Bank policies.
• Support internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance reviews.
• Prepare executive-level reporting on operational risk trends, QA results, regulatory reporting metrics, and control effectiveness.
• Collaborate with ERM, Compliance, and Internal Audit to strengthen the Bank's risk management framework.
• Lead initiatives to improve operational resilience, process efficiency, and control effectiveness.
• Promote a culture balancing client experience, operational excellence, and risk discipline.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
