Empallo is seeking a clinical Operations Associate to support and optimize day-to-day operations across affiliated medical practices. This hands-on role blends patient-facing coordination with engineering-driven workflow automation, fostering a culture of problem-solving and continuous improvement.

You will collaborate with clinicians, operations, and product teams to streamline onboarding, scheduling, and revenue cycle tasks while ensuring compliant, high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a related program.
  • Certifications in healthcare support are a plus but not required.
  • Interest in improving clinical and revenue workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient onboarding and scheduling
  • Coordinate diagnostics, referrals, results processing, and follow up care
  • Support revenue cycle tasks including eligibility checks and claims submissions
  • Communicate with healthcare providers to ensure smooth care delivery

Job description

Location: Hybrid; could be primarily remote, with in-person visits to our Cambridge, MA or Portland, ME office at least once per month.

Job Summary

Empallo is a cardiology startup looking for a clinical Operations Associate to support and help improve the day-to-day operations of our affiliated medical practices. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on solving problems, learning quickly, and making sure patients and providers have a smooth experience from start to finish. You'll work across clinical operations, revenue cycle management, and product and process improvement, with the opportunity to take on greater ownership as you learn the business and demonstrate strong performance.

This role is ideal for someone who is equal parts organized operator and process builder, comfortable talking with patients and providers one hour and working with engineers to automate a workflow the next.

Areas of Responsibility

1. Clinical Operations

  • Manage patient onboarding and scheduling

  • Guide patients through their care journey, answering questions along the way

  • Coordinate diagnostics, referrals, results processing, and follow up care

  • Communicate with healthcare providers to support smooth care delivery

  • Gather actionable feedback from providers and patients to improve and automate operational workflows

  • Research and maintain understanding of applicable healthcare regulations to help ensure compliance across operations

2. Revenue Cycle Management

  • Support revenue cycle management, including eligibility checks, claim submissions, prior authorizations

  • Follow up with payers on outstanding or appealed claims

  • Support invoicing

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with operational team members, patients, clinicians, engineers and executives

  • Cross functional collaboration experience

  • Ability to turn user feedback and data into clear product requirements and operational improvements

  • Strong organizational, time management, and follow through skills

  • Ability to understand and communicate US healthcare regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements clearly

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced startup environment

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides

  • Experience with, or willingness to learn, tools related to:

    • Customer relationship management (CRM)

    • Electronic health records (EHRs)

    • Software development project tracking and roadmap planning

    • Revenue cycle management (RCM)

Education
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a community college, vocational or professional certificate program, or undergraduate program, in a related field

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., certified nursing assistant, medical assistant) are a plus, but not required
