Job summary

LHH is seeking an Operational Accounting Manager in the United States to lead and elevate the operational accounting function, drive process improvements, strengthen controls, and support business operations across a growing organization.

This hands-on leader will balance day-to-day execution with strategic initiatives, system enhancements, and cross-functional partnership to elevate accounting operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with AP/AR/payroll leadership.
  • Experience managing accounting operations in project-based/service environments.
  • Strong understanding of month-end close, internal controls, and accounting principles.
  • Experience with ERP systems and process automation.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and build relationships.
  • Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee AP, AR, Billing, and Payroll operations ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Lead and develop a team for payables, receivables, billing, and payroll.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements.
  • Oversee month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, and financial analysis.
  • Partner with operations, HR, and leadership to support business objectives.
  • Manage cash flow, collections, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, payroll regs, tax, and audits.
  • Support ERP implementations and business process integrations.

Job description

LHH has an immediate Operational Accounting Manager to lead and elevate the operational accounting function while driving process improvements, strengthening controls, and supporting business operations across a growing organization.

This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys balancing day-to-day execution with strategic initiatives, system enhancements, and cross-functional partnership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee AP, AR, Billing, and Payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across all transaction processing activities.
  • Manage and develop a team responsible for payables, receivables, billing, payroll, and related accounting functions.
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements to improve efficiency and strengthen controls.
  • Oversee month-end close activities, reconciliations, accruals, reporting, and financial analysis for operational accounting functions.
  • Partner with operations, HR, and leadership teams to resolve issues, improve processes, and support business objectives.
  • Manage cash flow, collections, vendor relationships, and key performance metrics across AP and AR functions.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, payroll regulations, tax requirements, and audit standards.
  • Support strategic initiatives including ERP implementations, acquisitions, and business process integrations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant accounts payable/ accounts receivable, or payroll leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience managing accounting operations, ideally within a project-based, service, construction, manufacturing, or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, month-end close processes, and internal controls.
  • Experience with ERP systems, process automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proven ability to build relationships across departments and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills.
